Waxberry Meatballs

Waxberry Meatballs is a traditional meat dish in Huizhou. It is named “Waxberry Meatballs” because the dish uses waxberry sauce or juice as seasoning and the meatballs look just like waxberries.

Waxberry Meatballs mince together 70% lean pork and 30% fat pork then mixed with salt, MSG, eggs and scallion and ginger juice to make small meatballs the size of a waxberry. Then the meatballs are covered with bread crumbs and fried till golden brown and later covered with sweet and sour waxberry sauce.

The dish has a beautiful rosy color and the meatballs are sour and sweet.
