Steamed Pea Flour Cake

Steamed Pea Flour Cake, also called Bean Paste Cake or Yellow Bean Cake, is a cake product of Han characteristics in Shanxi. It tastes quite sweet and is suitable for eating in the summer.

Steamed Pea Flour Cake uses high quality peas that are peeled and grinded. White sugar, dried persimmon, and persimmon rime are then added. The cakes taste luscious and palatable and carry the function of reducing internal heat, nourishing the spleen and stomach, reducing fevers, and removing toxins. It has heat-clearing, toxin removal, and diuresis effects. It also can be made into a snack food by baking and frying, which is a cold snack that has a cooling effect in summer. It is one of Taiyuan’s seasonal snacks. In 1957, Steamed Pea Flour Cake was named as one of Taiyuan’s "Top Ten Famous Snacks."
