Hoh Xil

Qinghai Hoh Xil National Natural Reserve is one of the best-reserved natural reserves in the world. It is also one of the largest and highest natural reserves with the most abundant species of wild animals. Hoh Xil is home to many rare wild animals such as Tibetan antelops and wild yaks.

Hoh Xil covers a large area which includes the Qiangtang Grassland in northern Tibetan plateau, south of the Kunlun Mountains in Qinghai Province and the adjoining area of Xinjiang, Tibet and Qinghai. Although the climat in Hoh Xil is dry and freezing, it still becomes heaven to explorers and researchers due to its unique ecological value.

On July 7, 2017 at 13:00 in Krakow, Poland, Qinghai Hoh Xil was approved to be put on the World Heritage List as natural site by the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee, becoming the 51st Chinese site inscribed on the list.

Travel Tips

Address:Hoh Xil National Natural Reserve is located in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest Qinghai Province.

Transportation:Since most of Hoh Xil has become a national natural reserve, travelers will need to contact the Hoh Xil Natural Reserve Authority stationed in Golmud to go through relevant procedures before entering. Travelers can take a train or a plane to Golmud City and then self-drive into Hoh Xil.
