Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area is located in the southwest of the Sichuan Basin around 150 kilometers from the provincial capital in Chengdu. With "the largest Buddha in the world" as its core attraction and characterized by its "bold, elegant, clear and reclusive" features, the area boasts sightseeing, pilgrimage, cultural, leisure and tourist functions to make it a national scenic area.

Located in the mountains, the Minjiang, Qingyi and Dadu rivers converge here amid beautiful scenery that combines culture and nature in harmony and creates a picturesque and colorful backdrop. The scenic area boasts a rich collection of cultural relics with three Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level located within, as well as five provincial and municipal-level protected sites and over 50 natural and cultural scenic spots.

In 1996, Mount Emei Scenic Area and Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area were listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
