Zhouzhuang Ancient Town

Zhouzhuang, the first famous ancient water town in the south of Yangtze River, is known as China’s most beautiful water town. Zhouzhuang Ancient Town is surrounded and divided by lakes and rivers. The fourteen ancient stone bridges spanning the rivers built in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties were well preserved. The small town is home to 800-some households, and more than 60 percent of them still preserve the architectural style of Ming and Qing dynasties.

Zhouzhuang Ancient Town is about one to two kilometers in area, so visitors can enjoy it on foot. The charm of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town lies in its cultural connotations. Its main attractions include Shen House, Zhang House, Milou Tower, Ye Chucang’s Former Residence, Chengxu Taoist Temple, and Quanfu Temple, which are of great historic, cultural, and aesthetic value.
