Kumbum Monastery (Ta’er Monastery)

Kumbum Monastery is located in Lusha’er Town, Huangzhong County, Xining City, Qinghai Province, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area with its magnificent buildings and plentiful treasures.

Kumbum Monastery has a history of over 400 years. The monastery was built along a mountain, and is made up of various palaces, halls, and temples, such as Big Tower Temple, Small Tower Temple, Dajing Hall, Big Kitchen, Jiujian Palace, Dalalang, Ruyi Temple, Taiping Temple, Puti Temple and Guomen Temple, which form a magnificent and ancient complex combining Tibetan and Han styles. The various temples and halls possess unique styles and great creativity, and their intricate decorations are also superb. The butter sculptures, murals and embroideries inside the temple are known as the “Three Wonders of Kumbum Monastery”, which are unique and of high artistic value.
