Qin Shi Huang’s Terracotta Army

Qin Shi Huang’s Terracotta Army was built on the site of funerary pits of the terracotta warriors and horses of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty. The site was discovered in 1974 and is known as “the Eighth Wonder of the World” and “One of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century”.

The three pits cover a total area of over 20,000 square meters and contain more than 7,000 life size terracotta figurines and horses with a high artistic value. The main sights at the Terracotta Army include pits 1, 2 and 3, the Exhibition Hall of Bronze Chariots and Horses and relevant temporary exhibitions.

The Terracotta Army Museum, served as the symbolic tourist attraction of Shaanxi Province and even China, has received more than 70,000,000 Chinese and foreign visitors including nearly 200 heads of states and governments. The Mausoleum of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty was recognized as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1987, and it is the only such site in Shaanxi Province.
