The Yellow River

Come Face to Face with the Mother River

The Yellow River is the second-longest river in China and the sixth in the world with an estimated length of 5,464 km. The river basin was the primary birthplace of Chinese civilization and is thus known as the “Mother River”. Originating in the Bayan Har Mountains on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Western China’s Qinghai Province, it flows eastward through Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and Shandong, before emptying into the Bohai Sea. The river course is dotted with renowned scenic areas including the Baotu Spring, Qufu Ming Dynasty Ancient City and Mount Tai.
