Taiyuan
Taiyuan, alternatively known as Bingzhou, Jinyang or Dragon City, is one of the most important and largest cities in North China and one of 22 megacities in China. Located at the joint part of the eastern, middle and western economic belts, Taiyuan plays an important role in linking the south and north, the east and west in the opening strategy and economic development layout. It is an ancient capital with a history of over 2,500 years. The ancient city, surrounded by mountains and rivers and serving as the shoulder and back of China, used to be the communication hub across the country while it is now the capital city of Shanxi and the political, economic and cultural center. It borders Fenhe River and is ringed on three sides by mountains. It has been reputed as “Splendid City” since ancient times. Taiyuan is a famous and vital military and cultural place in North China, a world-renowned city for Shanxi merchants, and one of the most import energy and heavy industrial bases in China.
