Dalian
Dalian, the second largest city in Liaoning Province, is located at the south of Liaodong Peninsula, adjacent to the Yellow Sea in the east and Bohai Sea in the west. As one of the five specially designated cities in the state plan, one of the fifteen sub-provincial cities and one of the fourteen opened coastal cities, Dalian is served as the window for the opening up of China’s northeast to the world, the international Shipping and Logistic Centre in northeast Asia and the regional financial centre. Lying on the hinterland of the northeast China, Dalian is also named as “the window of the northeast”, “the northern peal” and “the romantic city”, with a pleasant weather both in winter and in summer. Dalian is the first city in China conferred as one of the Global 500 Roll of Honor for Environmental Achievement by the United Nations Environment Program in 2001. In 2006, together with Hangzhou and Chengdu, Dalian was rewarded as the best tourist city in China. Dalian also won the global whole city award in 2009.
