Qinhuangdao
Situated in northeast Hebei, Qinhuangdao, Qin for short, is among the earliest Chinese coastal cities to open up since China first introduced its policy of reform and opening up to the outside world. Qinhuangdao is the place that Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor in Chinese history, reached in 215 BC during an inspection tour in eastern China, when the emperor sent people sailing into the sea to seek the fabled elixir of life, hence its current name. Thus the city becomes the only Chinese city to be named after the honorific title of an emperor. Qinhuangdao’s famous tourist resorts include Beidaihe, Nandaihe, Changli Golden Coast, the First Pass under the Heaven in Shanhai Pass and Zushan Natural Scenic Spot in Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County. Qinhuangdao’s famous tourist attractions include the First Pass under the Heaven, the Old Dragon Head, the Mengjiangnu Temple, Jiao Mountain, the Pigeon Nest, the Tiger Stone, Lianfeng Mountain, the Aquarium and the Emerald Island.
