Xining
Xining (Standard Tibetan: Zi-ning; Salar language: Ci Liang) is the capital city of Qinghai Province. In ancient times Xining was ever named Xiping County and Qingtang Town. As the largest city in Qinghai Province, Xining is the center of politics, economy, culture, education, science and transportation as well as communication in Qinghai. Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway Passenger Line passes through and stops at Xining. Located between the two mountains on the banks of Hehuang Valley in Tibetan Plateau from north to south, Xining falls into the region of Qilian Mountains with Huangshui River - a tributary of Yellow River running through the city from west to east. With a population of its permanent residents reaching 2.228 million, Xining has an urbanization rate of 65.44%. Xining is rich in nationalities including Han, Tibetan, Hui, Mongolian, Salar, Manchu and Turkish and so on. The main religions there are Islam, Tibetan Buddhism, Chinese Buddhism, Taoism, and Catholicism etc.
