Shaoguan
An age-old city with rich culture and custom known as Shaozhou in ancient times, Shaoguan is home to "Maba Man" as well as the cradle of Sixia culture. Emerging as a town over 2,100 years ago, Shaoguan was hailed as a "famous prefecture in the Lingnan region" in ancient times, and a great many historical figures emerged from there in Chinese history, including senior Chen Dynasty official Hou Andu, famous Tang Dynasty prime minister Zhang Jiuling, famous Song Dynasty official Yu Jing, and famous Qing Dynasty writer Liao Yan. Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, lived and taught in Shaozhou for 37 years, and Nanhua Temple has become the "most sacred temple in southern China" to Zen Buddhism. A long rich history has resulted in a humanistic environment, a simple and honest people, and a stable society in Shaoguan.
