Nanning
Nanning is the capital and the largest city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. This city is the core of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. Located in the south-central part of Guangxi, it is the hometown of red beans. As a historic border city, it is rich in cultural heritages. In ancient times, it was named Yongzhou. Located at the junction of the economic circle between South China, Southwest China and Southeast Asia, it is an important economic center along the Beibu Gulf. As a modern city with multiple ethnic groups centering on Zhuang, it hosts 36 ethnic groups including Zhuang, Han, Miao and Yao, with a population of 6.6616 million including an urban population of 3.44 million. Unique natural conditions make Nanning City green all the year round, forming a style of “green mountains, clear water and green trees”. Nanning has colorful folk dances and operas such as Lion Dance, Spring Cattle Dance, Yong Opera, Guangdong Opera, Mask Opera and 8-intrument performances. For over 1000 years, Zhuang people have had traditional arts and unique cultural heritages such as embroidery, brocade, woven bamboo, wood wares, ceramics, sculptures, paintings, paper cutting, tie-dyed wares and batik clothing.
