Huangshan Mountain Scenic Spot in Huangshan City
Situated in Huangshan City, Anhui Province, Mount Huangshan has been declared as the World Geopark, World Cultural Heritage & World Natural Heritage, National 5A Level Scenic Spot, one of China's Top Ten Places of Interest, national-level scenic spot and the first batch of national civilized demonstration sites for scenic spots. It was formerly known as Yishan Mountain due to its dark rocks, and got its current name "Mount Huangshan" in the reign of Emperor Tianbao in Tang Dynasty as it was reported that the Yellow Emperor practised alchemy here. Xu Xiake, a famous traveler and geographer of the Ming Dynasty, said that "After scaling Mount Huangshan, one will no longer have the desire to climb other mountains, and travel will come to an end." In December 1990, Mount Huangshan was listed by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage Sites as a cultural and natural heritage; in February 2004, Mount Huangshan was declared as a world geopark.
